The city of Everglades has long been known for it's fantastic fishing in the backwaters, quaint small town, fishing village charm, great food, and long history (for this area). However, most people do not know that Everglades city was once the county seat. It was the first town in Collier County, established in 1923.
One of the main industries was logging what is now the Big Cypress National Preserve, as well as fishing and dredging clams in the waters near shore.
